Everything you need to know
about PomoToki.

A complete walkthrough of every feature — from your first timer session to advanced Pro analytics.

Basics

Getting Started

PomoToki works completely offline and requires no account. Your data lives on your device. Here's how to get going in under a minute.

1

Choose your mode

The bottom tab bar gives you four modes: Timer (countdown or count-up), Pomodoro (focus/break cycles), Stopwatch (laps), and History. Tap the mode you want to start.

2

Assign a project (optional)

Before or during a session, tap the project selector to attach your time to a colour-coded project. Add a task or tag too if you want finer-grained tracking.

3

Start and let it run

Hit the play button. PomoToki keeps running in the background via a foreground service — you'll see a notification with live time. The screen can lock safely.

4

Your session is saved automatically

When you stop or reset, the session is written to History. Open the History tab to see it, edit it, or add notes.

Tip: If your timer stops when the screen locks, go to Settings → Battery optimization and grant the exemption. Android's battery management can kill background processes without it.
Timer

Timer — Countdown & Count-up

The Timer screen covers two modes in one place: a classic countdown and a free-running count-up. Switch between them with the pill selector at the top of the screen.

Countdown

Set any duration. An alarm fires when time is up and the session is logged automatically.

⬆️

Count-up

No target — just track how long you've been working. Useful when tasks don't have a fixed duration. Stop and save whenever you're done.

📁

Context assignment

Tap the project chip to link the session to a project, task, or subtask. You can also add free-form tags.

Pomodoro

Pomodoro Mode

The Pomodoro technique splits work into focused intervals separated by short breaks, with a longer break every few cycles. PomoToki handles the transitions automatically.

1

Configure your cycle in Settings

Go to Settings → Pomodoro to set focus duration, short break, long break, and how many cycles before a long break. The default is 25/5/15 with 4 cycles.

2

Start the first focus phase

Press play. The ring indicator shows progress within the current phase. Cycle dots at the top track completed rounds.

3

Transitions happen automatically

When a focus phase ends, PomoToki alarms and switches to the break timer. If auto-start is enabled in Settings, the next phase begins without any tap.

4

Sessions are logged per phase

Each focus block and break block is saved individually in History so you can see the full Pomodoro structure later.

Tip: Use Pomodoro Presets (Pro) to save alternative cycle configurations — for example a lighter 50/10 "flow" preset alongside the classic 25/5.
Stopwatch

Stopwatch

A full-featured stopwatch with lap tracking. Choose between the clean modern display or the vintage Seiko-inspired dial (Pro).

Lap tracking

Press the Lap button while the stopwatch is running to record a split. Each lap is listed below the dial and saved with the session.

🕰️

Vintage dial Pro

Unlock the Seiko-inspired analogue stopwatch face. The dial maxes out at 260 dp to keep the lap list visible below it.

📁

Project & task linking

Assign the stopwatch session to a project, task, or subtask just like the Timer. Tap the context chip at the bottom of the screen.

✂️

Session segments

Long pauses automatically split a session into segments in the History view, so you can see when you were actually working versus paused.

Organise

Projects & Tasks

Colour-coded projects let you group sessions by area of work. Each project can have tasks, and tasks can have subtasks. Tags add a flexible cross-project layer.

1

Create a project

Open the Projects tab and tap the + button. Give it a name and pick a colour. Colours appear in charts and history filters.

2

Add tasks inside a project

Tap a project to open its detail screen. Tap Add task. Tasks can be nested: long-press a task to add a subtask underneath it.

3

Assign sessions to tasks

When starting a Timer or Stopwatch session, tap the context chip and select a project → task → subtask. The full hierarchy is shown in History.

4

Archive completed projects

Long-press a project and choose Archive. Archived projects disappear from the main list but remain searchable in the Archive Browser (Pro).

Todoist users: Connect your Todoist account in Settings to import your Todoist projects and tasks directly. Focus sessions can be logged back to Todoist as task comments. Pro

Integrations

Todoist Integration Pro

Connect your Todoist account to import projects and tasks, then log focus sessions back to Todoist as task comments — without leaving PomoToki.

1

Connect in Settings

Go to Settings → Todoist → Connect Todoist. You'll be taken to a Todoist authorisation page in the browser. Approve access and you'll be redirected back.

2

Your Todoist projects appear in the task picker

When assigning context to a timer session, Todoist projects and tasks appear alongside your local PomoToki projects. They're visually distinguished.

3

Sessions are logged back as comments

When a session ends with a Todoist task selected, PomoToki posts a time log comment on that Todoist task automatically.

4

Disconnect any time

Go to Settings → Todoist → Disconnect. Your local PomoToki data is unaffected. The API token is stored only on your device in encrypted storage.

Privacy note: Your Todoist token is stored locally using Android's EncryptedSharedPreferences. It is never sent to PomoToki's servers — communication goes directly between your device and Todoist's servers.

Export a backup

Go to Settings → Backup & Export. Choose JSON (full backup, recommended) or CSV (spreadsheet-friendly). The file is saved to your device's storage.

2

Restore from backup

On the same screen, tap Restore from backup and select your previously exported JSON file. This replaces all existing data — export a fresh backup first if needed.

Tip: To move your data to a new phone, export a JSON backup, transfer the file manually (e.g. via Google Drive, email, or USB), then restore it in PomoToki on the new device.
FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Android aggressively kills background processes to save battery. Go to Settings → Battery optimization inside PomoToki and enable the "Disable battery optimization" toggle. This tells Android to keep the timer service alive. The exact steps vary by phone manufacturer — some (Xiaomi, Huawei, OnePlus) require additional steps in their own battery settings app.
No. PomoToki is fully offline. The only feature that requires internet is the optional Todoist integration, which syncs tasks and logs sessions to Todoist's servers.
No — only one timer mode can be active at a time. If the Timer (countdown or count-up) or Pomodoro is running, the Stopwatch start button is disabled, and vice versa. This avoids conflicting sessions in your history.
Go to Settings → Language and pick from the 11 supported languages. The app switches instantly without requiring a restart. On Android 13+ the language preference is stored per-app.
Yes. Open the History tab, tap the session to expand it, then use the edit (pencil) button to assign a project, task, or tags retroactively.
All your data — sessions, projects, tasks, settings — is stored in a local Room database on your device. Nothing is transmitted to any PomoToki server. The app uses Google Play Services for billing and distribution, which may collect device identifiers per Google's own privacy policy.
Use Backup & Restore (Pro). Export a JSON backup on your old phone, transfer the file to your new phone (via Google Drive, email, etc.), then restore it in PomoToki on the new device. Your Pro purchase can be restored via Google Play — tap Restore purchases in Settings.
PomoToki checks your purchase status automatically with Google Play each time the app starts. Make sure you're signed into the same Google account you used to purchase. If the features are still locked, try force-closing the app and reopening it — this triggers a fresh check. If the problem persists, you can also manage and verify your purchase directly in the Google Play Store under My Library → In-app purchases.
Sessions shorter than this threshold are discarded and not saved to History. This prevents accidental taps or very short test runs from cluttering your history. Set it to 0 to save everything, or raise it (e.g. 30 or 60 seconds) to filter out noise.
Yes. In the History tab, tap the + button and choose Add session manually. You can set the session type, project, task, start time, and duration.
